Following the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour to the Southwest to close out the 2013 season, Matt Covington had a nice weekend, as he tallied two fourth place finishes as he was in action in El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM.

“It was great to follow these guys (ASCS National Tour) out west, and run as well as we did,” Covington said. “We will look to close this deal out this weekend with some more top finishes.”

Starting on the front row of his heat at the El Paso Speedway Park on Friday night, Covington score a second place finish, good enough to put him in the feature though he would line up in the fifth row.

When the feature event went green, Covingotn flexed his muscle as he worked the El Paso Speedway to near perfection as he tracked down to leaders, as he worked himself up into the third spot late in the race.

Chasing after Christopher Bell and Jeff Swindell, Covington lost brakes as debris got into his caliper, but he kept digging.

With just a couple to go, Covington blew threw the cushion, and allowed Kolt Walker to sneak by, and he settled for fourth.

Heading to Las Cruces, NM on Saturday night, Covington drew high, and put his T&L Foundry/Triple X/Winters backed entry seventh in his heat, but was able to work up to a fourth place finish.

Drawing the four pill in the redraw, Covington got off to a nice start in the feature, as he jumped into the third spot, and spent most of the race there.

In the closing laps, Johnny Herrera was able to sneak under him, and for the second night in a row, the Glenpool, OK driver pocketed a fourth place finish.

“We were really fast both nights, and grabbed top five finishes with some stout competition,” he said “We had some brake problems that probably cost us a third place finish on Friday, but other than that it was a nice weekend.”

Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, Bob Hurley RV, Eaton Industrial, Maxwell Industries, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.
