Graves Motorsports and Walker End Unlucky Season on a High Note

LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 25, 2013) – The number 13 is unlucky and Graves Motorsports driver Kolt Walker is attributing that to the team’s tough luck this past season.

Kolt Walker

“It was the 13 in 2013,” he joked. “It wasn’t my best season. If we were running good we had parts failures. We’ve had the craziest stuff happen from brand new parts breaking to just odd-ball stuff that’s never happened to me before. It seemed like if there was going to be something go wrong we were in the middle of it.”

Walker ended with seven top-five finishes and 18 top 10s, but it was his lone victory that highlighted the season.

“The night we won at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was the best,” he said. “It was an ASCS Lone Star vs. Sooner Regional race on July 6. It was a night to be ours. We did decent in the heat race and that got us in the redraw. We ended up starting third in the main.

“The car was perfect. We ran off and left them. We had five or six restarts and that didn’t matter. Winning at Devil’s Bowl is always neat to me because it’s Devil’s Bowl. It’s a pretty historic place.”

Walker used that to guide the Graves Motorsports team to a third-place finish in the ASCS Lone Star Region championship standings. He also recorded a podium result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at El Paso Speedway Park in El Paso, Texas, on Nov. 1 to send the team into the offseason with momentum.

“Luckily for us our last four races with the ASCS National Tour we actually had some really good nights,” he said. “That reminded us that we can run with those guys. Throughout the middle of the season we couldn’t do anything right. We ended this season running pretty strong. At least going into next year our hopes are better than it would have been.”

Walker said the team will likely have a similar schedule next season with approximately 40 to 50 races with the ASCS Lone Star and ASCS Sooner Regions as well as any Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events within the area.

“I’m excited to get back out there with the momentum that we have created and hopefully we ran through most of the bad luck,” he said. “I want to thank Jerry Graves and the crew, as well as all of the partners who have helped this team. I’m looking for big things next season.”

SEASON STATS –

42 races, 1 win, 7 top fives, 18 top 10s, 25 top 15s, 27 top 20s
