PERRIS, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2013) – The western excursion for Tyler Thomas ends on Thursday.

Thomas will make his debut at the 73rd annual Turkey Night Grand Prix with the Honda USAC National Dirt Midget Series on Thanksgiving night at Perris Auto Speedway.

“I know it’s a bigger track than I normally run,” he said. “I’ve always heard great things about it. I’m really excited to experience it and experience my first Turkey Night.”

Thomas said his only experience on a track the size of the half-mile Perris Auto Speedway was two years ago at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb.

“It was actually my third or fourth midget start,” he said. “I think we were running seventh and got caught up in an incident on the last lap on the first night. On the second night I cut a tire a few laps in and didn’t finish.”

Despite the lack of laps on a big track, Thomas said he has a high expectation for Thursday’s event.

“I think we can qualify in the top 14, which would lock us in the feature,” he said. “That would be the biggest accomplishment and I think we’re fully capable of doing that. If not, I know we can race good and make the show. I think a top 15 or a top 10 in the feature would be pretty good.”
