Sydney, AU — (January 8, 2013) — They will probably talk about the night the Kinsers put their elbows up and declared the Valvoline Raceway a war zone.
The Valvoline Australian sprintcar grand prix was 35 laps in duration which 20 times world champion Steve Kinser led early until caught by his 27 year-old son Kraig.
They banged wheels once or twice before Steve charged to the front with Kraig hot on his tail.
Kraig eventually worked his way to the front and then had to fend off his 58 year-old father while Dale Blaney, the Ohio traveller had a ferocious tussle with Max Dumesny before locking up third.
Multi Australian champion Brooke Tatnell was in the thick of things early and was a strong chance of a top three until the motor went sour and he headed to the pits.
The meeting was to have been held on Boxing night but fell foul to the weather.
Conditions were heavy to start the show but the track turned slick by feature race time.
Robbie Farr was a fast finisher, coming home fifth and one position from American Justin Henderson.
At the presentation ceremony Steve Kinser, Kraig, and Dale Blaney were all smiles.
For Kraig it was his second main event win as he took the World Derby on Saturday night.
“This feels really good, the track was magic and having that guy in the other 11 car helps to keep you pointed in the right direction,” Kraig declared.
“Kraig was the guy to beat tonight, but I don’t want him getting used to the big trophies,” Steve smirked.
The internationals return to Valvoline Raceway on Saturday night for the NSW Sprintcar championships when the USA will again meet Australia’s best.
