Sydney, AU — (January 17, 2014) — American Jason Sides looked the likely winner of the Scott Darley preliminary main event at Valvoline Raceway tonight.

That was until the last corner when he got sideways and spun to the infield in the shadow of the checker.

An appreciative Tim Kaeding took full advantage of his spin to take the flag ahead of fellow countryman and NASCAR ace Brad Sweet while Robbie Farr came home a fighting third.

The 25 lap race went flag to flag with passing and re-passing everywhere in the field.

A slick track did not prevent the brave wing men from using the high line to full advantage and Sweet was the sleeper in the field.

He caught Steve Kinser at one stage and they ran wheel to wheel before the quiet man continued his move to the front.

Take nothing away though from Tim Kaeding (pictured) who looked totally in touch from the moment he turned his first lap at qualifying until the dash to the line.

“This is just a great start to our trip and I guess it can only get better,” Kaeding said

Robbie Farr won plenty of praise for his run through the traffic to finish third and looms as a big chance in the finals on Saturday night..

Five qualifying heats will be held Saturday while speedcars, legend cars, street stocks and wingless sprints supporting the sprintcar action.

Gates open at 3.00 p.m. with action from six o’clock.

And the Scott Darley sprintcar classic promises to be the race of the year.
