Atlanta, GA – (January 27, 2014) – The United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint cars are set for a return engagement at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia on Friday, August 29th for the 2014 version of the USCS Sprint Car Shootout. The event will be held during Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Labor Day weekend 2014 race date on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. The winged warriors of the USCS will again light up the night immediately following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session with a 50-lap USCS winged sprint car main event on the quarter-mile paved AMS “Thunder Ring,” located on the front stretch of the speedway.
United Sprint Car Series founder and President, Pete Walton said, ”We are totally excited about this opportunity for our drivers and race teams to return to AMS and showcase their talents during this major racing event for the second year in a row. Some of the best drivers in NASCAR’s top racing division excelled in sprint car racing. It will again be an honor for the USCS to be racing in front of them and all the great fans at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend”.
“The nearly 35,000 race fans who attended last season must have agreed that the USCS drivers put on an exciting event. Apparently this was good enough for a return to the speedway during this action-packed race weekend. Race fans who missed the 2013 USCS Sprint Car Shootout at AMS and have never seen this type of racing are in store for an exciting evening on Friday, August 29th” concluded Walton
The USCS Sprint Car Shootout format on August 29, 2014 will see the USCS winged sprint car competitors contest a practice session that will be followed by a time trial qualifying session on Friday (August 29th) from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This three hour time frame will allow for two rounds of practice for each competitor followed by time trials and then a series of qualifying races to determine the final starting order for the 50-lap USCS Sprint Car Shootout finale.
The preliminary interest from sprint car competitors is again extremely high for the Atlanta Motor Speedway USCS event. The series (USCS) has scheduled six to eight paved oval races during the 2014 season that will occur prior to the AMS August 29th event. This series of pavement events will be entitled as the USCS “Road to Atlanta” 2014 series. The USCS races in the “Road to Atlanta” 2014 series will serve as qualifiers for the event at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
A field comprised of some of the top winged sprint car drivers from across the nation are expected to compete in the USCS “Road to Atlanta” racing series to gain a spot in the 2014 Atlanta Motor Speedway event. The field will be limited to 24 pre-qualified entries for the event due to time restraints.
The United Sprint Car Series is the only winged sprint car series in the World that contests it’s Championship on both dirt and paved ovals. At 1,300 pounds and over 700 horsepower, winged sprint cars are pound for pound the World’s fastest and most powerful short-track cars. The USCS winged sprint cars are expected to reach speeds of approximately one hundred miles per hour (100 M.P.H.) around the quarter mile AMS “Thunder Ring.”
