Fresh off of winning the 2014 Grand Annual Classic in Australia, Tim Kaeding and his Roth Motorsports team kicked off their season last week in Florida, and had a great showing with a handful of top-finishes.
“It was great to get out and start our World of Outlaw season,” Kaeding said. “Davey (Jones), Brandon (Hickman), and Scotty (Martin), really worked hard, and we had a really fun racecar to drive all week in Volusia.”
With Mother Nature having her way on Wednesday night, Kaeding’s season would finally kick off on Thursday night at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions.
With 43 cars in the field, the San Jose, CA pilot timed his Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle entry in 9th fastest, ultimately putting him in the second row of the first heat race.
On a track that held moisture all night long as a result of the rain the night before, Kaeding held on to a fourth place finish, and transferred into the feature event.
Lining up seventh in the feature event, TK was forced to get on the binders hard on the opening lap to a void an out of shape car, and slipped back to the 12th spot, where he began battling with Kerry Madsen, and Jac Haudenschild.
TK would continue to battle the duo for much of the race, and found himself crossing the stripe with a 10th place finish.
Friday night was ran under the World of Outlaws banner, as it marked the series’ season opener, and TK kicked his 2014 World of Outlaw campaign off with the fifth fastest lap during qualifications.
Finishing fourth in his heat, Kaeding just missed out on the Dash, and was placed in the sixth row for the feature event.
On a picture perfect racetrack, Kaeding was a tick tight to start the race, but as the race wore on, and he burned his fuel load off, Kaeding’s car came to him in the closing laps, as he rode the Volusia Speedway Park cushion to a sixth place finish.
Back in action on Saturday night, qualifications did not go as hoped for TK, as his machine was just a little too tight, and he slid down the speed charts to 22nd fastest.
Starting sixth in his heat race, the electrifying Kaeding was hard on the throttle when the race went green and he made early moves around Bronson Maeschen and Rico Abreu to jump into the third spot, and transfer into the evening’s feature event.
Lining up 20th in the feature due to his qualifying time, TK again had a machine that was capable of moving forward on the slick, and fast Volusia Speedway Park.
For much of the feature event, TK and Kerry Madsen fought for position as they both worked there way towards the top 10 from the back of the pack.
Searching around the speedway for a little grip, Kaeding was able to salvage his night by advancing forward seven positions to score a 13th place finish.
Sunday brought the final night of the DIRTcar Nationals, and TK looked to cap a great week off with another great finish, and he started the night off by timing the potent Mobil1/FK Rod Ends/Weld Wheels backed entry in fifth fastest.
A fourth place finish in his heat put Kaeding in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event, and TK would not disappoint.
While most in the crowd had their eyes glued to the front of the field, as Steve Kinser picked up his first win of what will be his final full World of Outlaw season, Tim Kaeding was busy earning the KSE Hard Charger of the race.
Running the tip-top of the speedway, Kaeding pounded the cushion as he got by the likes of Paul McMahan and Joey Saldana en route to a fifth place finish to close out the action packed week.
“I really have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for giving me this great opportunity,” TK said. “Though we were not able to get a win, we showed a ton of speed, and picked up some great finishes. It is a long year, so we will take those night’s we can score top five’s.”
Tim and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2013.
