Mitchell Kicks Off Season at Copper on Dirt

From Peterson Media

Jumpstarting his 2014 season on Friday night, Matt Mitchell picked up a 10th place finish at the Copper on Dirt after Mother Nature turned it into a one day event.

“We struggled a little early in the night, and that put us in the middle of the pack for the feature event,” Mitchell said.

With 21 cars on hand for the 2014 USAC/CRA opener at the Canyon Speedway Park, Mitchell timed his Pit Boss Jacks/Campbell Brothers Storage/MPD backed entry in 13th fastest putting him on the front row of his heat race.

Heat race action saw Mitchell hook up into a very entertaining battle with Austin Williams for the first few laps, with Williams getting the better of Mitchell, and late in the race, Mike Spencer snuck by, and Mitchell settled for a third place finish.

As the night wore on, the race track continued to slick off, and get wide, but their was the threat of it taking rubber, and with Mitchell starting 13th, that wasn’t what he was hoping for.

When the feature event went green, Mitchell tried to gain as much ground as he could, as fast as he could, as worked his way into the 10th spot, as he battle with Colby Copeland and Dave Darland.

The laps clicked off and the track began taking rubber in certain places, and Mitchell would get in line and end his night with a 10th place finish.

“For some reason I have always seemed to struggle at this place (CSP),” Mitchell said. “We made some changes after our heat, and got okay in the feature, but I’ll take the 10th place finish, and move on to Las Vegas, NV.”

Matt would like to thank Pit Boss Jacks, Campbell Brothers Storages, MPD, and ART Speed Equipment for their support in 2014.
