Stockton, CA — (March 24, 2014) — Austen Wheatley is looking forward to getting back on the track and putting last weekend behind him.
Wheatley was unable to recover from an early miscue last Saturday during World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series qualifying at the Stockton Dirt Track.
“I flew off the backstretch coming to the white flag,” he said. “So my first lap I flew off the backstretch and almost flipped coming back on. It screwed up my rhythm and both laps.”
Wheatley timed in 27th quickest and he placed seventh in his heat race to miss locking into the feature by only two positions.
“There was a little bit of a bump going into turn three, but it wasn’t too bad,” he said. “Turns one and two were slick in the heat races. I struggled with it the whole night for whatever reason.”
Wheatley then finished with an eighth-place finish in the Last Chance Showdown to conclude his night.
He is slated to return to action with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series this Friday at Merced Speedway in Merced, Calif., and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the Mini Gold Cup.
