PARK CITY, Kan. (March 30, 2014) – Kevin Swindell relied on his experience to capture his first victory of the season last Saturday.

Swindell used a late-race pass in the Blazing Racing entry to secure the NCRA triumph on a challenging track during the 4th annual Air Capital Shootout at 81 Speedway. It marked the second straight podium result since the team paired together.

“It’s been pretty flawless so far,” Swindell said.

Flawless is exactly what Swindell was Saturday when he charged from third place to the lead of his heat race on the opening lap. He led the distance to record the heat race win, which put him second highest in points and gave him a spot on the outside of the front row for the 35-lap main event.

The track began to take rubber prior to the feature and passing was at a premium.

“In turns three and four it was kinda spotty and it was pretty well just rubber down in turns one and two,” he said. “I stayed on the top probably the first 10 laps or so. You could make up ground up there, but not quite enough. You had to tip toe around there.”

Swindell stayed within striking distance of polesitter Danny Lasoski throughout the race before tire wear became an issue.

“I had used mine pretty good trying to get by him,” Swindell said. “I kinda came to the conclusion I was going to burn my stuff up. A little after halfway I started riding. I was going to go full bore once we got about three or four laps to go.”

However, Lasoski’s right rear tire went flat during a caution with approximately eight laps remaining and Swindell capitalized on the restart.

“He tried to take off and it wasn’t going to go at all through turns three and four,” Swindell said. “Luckily they keep the cone down and there was enough room to sneak between him and the wall.”

Swindell took the top spot just beyond the flag stand and he survived a couple of cautions in the closing laps to earn the win.

“I guess I conserved just enough,” he said. “It’s great to get a win with the team so quickly.”

Swindell and the Blazing Racing team are scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the ASCS Midwest Region.
