Swindell has captured four consecutive top 10 results, which includes a trio of top fives and his first podium finish of the season last week.

“We’ve been probably closer than it looks on the race car,” he said. “We were missing that little bit for qualifying. It’s got a lot better. This last (engine) we’ve got to run the last couple of weekends has been the best one we’ve had. It’s starting to pay off and I think it’s going to get better.”

The first race after leaving the lengthy West Coast swing with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series was last Tuesday at El Paso Speedway Park in El Paso, Texas. Swindell qualified the Big Game Treestands team in 13th quickest, but was only four thousandths of a second out of making the heat race inversion.

Swindell advanced from fifth to third place during his heat race, which locked him into the main event. After starting the feature on the inside of the seventh row, Swindell rallied to a fifth-place result.

“It was pretty slick there,” he said. “There was some track at the top, but it kinda went away for the main. Most everybody was running the bottom. We had a real good car there. We knew we were starting back a ways so we made quite a few changes. When you’re near the front you don’t want to try a lot of things, so we were able to learn a lot.”

The Big Game Treestands team continued to roll once the Texas Outlaw Nationals kicked off last Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Swindell qualified fourth quickest and placed second in his heat race to advance to the dash. With a six-car inversion, Swindell started on the outside of the second row for the dash and he finished fifth, which is where he started the 25-lap feature.

“The dash draw didn’t go as good as it could have,” he said. “I had a good start (in the feature) and went from fifth to third. I had a pretty good pace and was trying to feel the track out. As I got up on (Paul) McMahan he went down to the bottom and it took the air off the car. I slid out and the middle was really slick. I tried to hang on, but I tried a little too hard and got in the fence coming off turn four. I lost two spots and had to work pretty hard to get those back.”

Swindell, who maintained a top-five position for the entire race, rebounded to end with a third-place finish – his best of the season and his third straight top five.

Quickness continued for the Big Game Treestands team on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway for the $20,000-to-win Ted Johnson Memorial. Swindell set quick time in qualifying for the first time this season and he placed third in his heat race to advance to the dash.

The dash inversion was a six and Swindell finished where he started, which lined him up on the outside of the third row for the 30-lap feature.

“We went to a little harder left rear tire,” he said. “Come to find out it was one that was a couple years old. It never was that great at the start. It never really hooked up that well. It definitely quit after that last caution. Once we restarted it was like I couldn’t put the throttle in. We didn’t have the grip we had earlier.”

Swindell battled within the top five for the first two thirds of the race before a late caution. He then dropped a handful of positions as the car struggled on the restart. Swindell held on for a ninth-place result.

The Big Game Treestands team is set to race this Friday at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., and this Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.
