– MESQUITE, Texas (April 21, 2014) – Kevin Swindell and the Blazing Racing team got behind the eight ball early last weekend during the Texas Outlaw Nationals.

“The motor let go in qualifying Friday night and put us behind the eight ball,” he said. “When you get caught up changing motors you can get behind.”

Swindell timed in 15th quickest despite the engine issues during the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series opening night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. He narrowly missed the inversion for the heat races and started his eight-lap heat on the inside of the third row.

Swindell then placed sixth in his heat race to lock into the 25-lap feature on the half-mile track.

“I think we were a little better in the feature, but there wasn’t anywhere to go,” he said.

Swindell finished where he started – 15th – on the one-lane track.

The team returned to Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday for the $20,000-to-win Ted Johnson Memorial.

Swindell went out to qualify late and timed in 19th, which started him on the inside of the fourth row for his heat race. He rallied to pick up a pair of positions to finish fifth in the heat race, which locked Swindell into the main event.

After starting the 30-lap feature 19th, Swindell rallied toward the top 10 before a caution in the final laps.

“I was 11th on the last restart and got hung out to lose one spot,” he said. “Then it laid rubber. I think we improved over the weekend. We just started behind.”

Swindell capped the weekend with a 12th-place finish.

“We made gains in the changes that we made overall, so that’s always a plus that you can improve even in some tough circumstances,” he said.

Swindell and the Blazing Racing team are scheduled to race with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series this Friday at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., and this Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.
