Danny Reidy’s Queensland Sprintcar Title tilt came to a premature end over the Anzac Day Long Weekend at Archerfield Speedway, when a mechanical failure during the formation laps of the feature race forced his early retirement.

Reidy’s throttle jammed aboard his NQ # 5 Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs supported Maxim as the field readied for the race start, sending him on a collision course with his unsuspecting rivals. Thankfully, he managed to muscle his car out of gear in time to avoid any carnage, but the incident meant he was unable to start the feature race and his hopes of a strong result were over.

Reidy looked set for a solid result after the opening night, after qualifying 11th, notching up a seventh and second-place finish in the first two heat races, and then finished the night with a seventh-place finish in the preliminary feature race. However, his fortunes turned on the second and final night. A costly DNF in the third and final heat race, due to being involved in someone else’s accident, meant that Reidy was unable to gain a direct transfer into the Queensland Title decider, leaving him to attempt to qualify via the B main, where he started from pole position. Reidy went on to win the B main, and that was to see him start from position 15 in the feature race, before the unfortunate mechanical issue with the engine put him out.

The two-time Queensland Title runner-up was understandably frustrated about his premature end to the weekend.

“The throttle jamming was just one of those unfortunate incidents,” commented Reidy. “I felt confident in the car heading into the feature race, as it was good in the B main, but obviously my run ended before it had a chance to begin.”

Reidy’s next event is the penultimate round of the KRE Sprintcar Series, to be held at Archerfield Speedway on Saturday night, May 10.

Reidy Racing would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Downs Tinting & Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines, for all of their 2013-14 season support.
