– CHICO, Calif. (May 5, 2014) – Dominic Scelzi is ready to forget about last weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway.

Dominic-Scelzi (2)

Scelzi made his season debut at the quarter-mile track on Friday during a local event. He qualified 14th quickest to make the heat race inversion and start on the pole of his heat.

“The bottom had slicked off on the exit of turn four and Willie (Croft) got a little better start,” he said.

Scelzi finished second in his heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started on the outside of the seventh row.

“About five laps into the feature it really slicked off,” he said. “We struggled. We kinda missed it and weren’t expecting it to go that slick.”

Scelzi battled to record an 11th-place result.

The team returned to Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday for the 24th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

“We went out dead last to qualify,” he said. “The way the track was shaping up it looked like it’d be good for us. We fought the car in qualifying and the same thing in the heat race. We could never get a handle on it. The track was hooked up and rough.”

After qualifying 25th quickest, Scelzi placed sixth in his heat race. That relegated him to the B Main, where he charged from 11th to sixth place to earn a transfer to the back of the main event.

“We were up to 16th or 17th on Lap 5 and a car half spun in front of me and I had nowhere to go,” he said. “As soon as I hit him I went in the work area. The car didn’t feel right. I thought we damaged a header. They didn’t really find anything wrong other than it smashed the muffler, but the motor seemed like it was running on seven cylinders.”

Scelzi restarted at the back of the pack, but was involved in another caution approximately 10 laps into the main event.

“We passed a couple of cars and another car half spun in front of us,” he said. “It tore up the front end and broke a right front shock. We called it a night then.”

Scelzi was unable to finish the race and he was credited with an 18th-place result.

He ranks ninth in the King of the West championship standings heading into this Saturday’s race at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif.
