– Returning to action with the USAC/CRA Series on Saturday night in Lake Perris, CA, Matt Mitchell had a rough night, that ultimately saw him rebound from last to score a 12th place finish.
“We didn’t time well, but we raced well, and unfortunately on the start of the A, we got tangled and had to limp home from the back,” he said.
Timing his Pit Boss Jacks/MPD/A.R.T. Speed Equipment backed No. 37 in 11th fastest, Mitchell went on to pick up a second place finish in heat race action, putting him in the fourth row of the feature event.
“We had pretty good speed after time trials, so we were all looking forward to see what we could do from the fourth row,” he added.
Lining up in the fourth row, Mitchell got off to a good start, but that all came to a screeching halt, as he got involved in a tangle on the fourth lap, putting him in the back of the pack.
With a bent up shock, Mitchell did what he’s done all year, and that is charge forward. Using all he had aboard his beat up machine, Mitchell was able to do some moving and shaking as he rallied home to a 12th place finish.
“It was unfortunate the way the night went,” Mitchell said. “We had a pretty good car, and even with some bent up parts we showed we had some speed coming from the back,” he said. “It seems to be par for the course so far this year, I just hope we can shake some bad luck, because we have shown that we are fast enough to be contenders.”
