– WOODHULL, N.Y. (May 13, 2014) – Joe Trenca had his first top 10 of the season at his fingertips last Saturday before it slipped away in the final corners.

For the second straight race, Trenca was running 10th on the final lap when he was forced to quickly slow down to avoid a crash. On Saturday, that cost him two positions and he placed 12th at Woodhull Raceway with the Patriot Sprint Tour.

“It’s frustrating as a driver because my guys are giving me really good cars,” he said. “We’re just not having the luck on the track. It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks finishing just outside the top 10, but I’m not letting that get me down.”

Trenca opened the event with a quick move in his heat race picking up two rows on the frontstretch as the green flag was waved.

“I was up to third on the first lap and I tried a different line to catch the leader,” he said. “I went to the top to try to catch the leaders and there was nothing up there. It wasn’t faster at all.”

Trenca finished sixth in his heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.

“There were a lot of cautions,” he said. “We probably had 50 caution laps. We had the car set up tight. I could get by guys on the bottom, but I couldn’t pass them as much as I wanted to. I was contemplating whether to move my wing back on one of the last cautions. On Lap 21 I moved it back and we went down into turns one and two and I got two guys. We had the white flag and I got another guy.”

Trenca had advanced into the top 10 before a wild last lap.

“Going into turns three and four there was a wreck,” he said. “I checked up and hit the cushion to miss the wreck and two guys got by me.”

Trenca’s 12th-place result marked his second straight top 15.

He is set to tackle Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., with the URC this Friday and Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
