Ohsweken, ON – (June 18, 2014) – Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, June 20, when Corr/Pak Merchandising presents “Corr/Pak vs. PST” Night featuring the Patriot Sprint Tour versus Ohsweken’s Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, plus TUSA Canada West Mod Lites, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.
PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR VERSUS CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
This Friday features the first of three challenge events between regional Sprint Car tours and the drivers of Ohsweken’s Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car division, with challenge races also scheduled with the Southern Ontario Sprints, and Empire Super Sprints later this season.
The New York-based Patriot Sprint Tour travels to Canada this weekend, with stops at Ohsweken on Friday, and Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday. The opening round of the PST Canada series was rained out at Merrittville Speedway in April, so this Friday’s event will serve as the first of the tour’s Canadian stops in 2014. New York driver Jason Barney charged through the field from 17th to 1st in last year’s PST vs. Corr/Pak event at Ohsweken. Barney will be a favourite to win again this year among the list traveling drivers expected on Friday, which also includes Pennsylvania’s Jared Zimbardi, Eastern Ontario drivers Lee Ladouceur and Chris Jones, New Yorkers Scott Kreutter, Steve Collins, and Derek Jonathan, Ohio’s Paige Polyak, and Quebec drivers Alain Bergeron and Michael Parent.
Glenn Styres has won two of the four Corr/Pak division events held so far at Ohsweken in 2014, and leads the championship points standings over Mitch Brown, Jim Huppunen, May 30 feature winner Chris Steele, Kyle Patrick, Dave Dykstra, Keith Dempster, Shane Ross, Todd Hoddick, and Justin Martin. They are just a few of the regulars of the Corr/Pak division ready to defend their home turf this Friday against the invaders from the Patriot Sprint Tour, along with June 6 feature winner Jessica Zemken, and Rookie of the Year standings leader Cory Turner.
One driver who will be noticeably absent from the lineup this Friday is Mikey Kruchka, who has announced that he is stepping away from the driver’s seat of his 360 Sprint Car effective immediately. Kruchka is second in the Corr/Pak division standings, and has two runner-up finishes at Ohsweken this season.
TUSA CANADA WEST MOD LITES
This Friday’s race marks the first of 8 events on the TUSA Canada West Mod Lite series schedule for 2014, and their first of two visits to Ohsweken this year. It is also the first race in a tripleheader weekend for the tour, which will move to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday, and Humberstone Speedway on Sunday.
Beamsville’s Paul Klager and New York driver Derek Wagner are past Mod Lite feature winners at Ohsweken who are planning to race on Friday. Other drivers expected include New Yorker Jim Bogett, Ohio’s Jeff Teeters, and Eastern Ontario driver Jesse Hudson, plus Merrittville Speedway regulars such as Jeff May, Dylan Davidson, Rob Misener, Josh Sliter, Ray Sliter, Jr., Evan Leonard, and Marty deMoel.
STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Opening night feature winner Ryan Hunsinger went back to Mobil 1 Victory Lane last Friday, and retook the lead in the Crate Sprint Car championship points standings as a result. His status for this Friday is up in the air though, as “The Gunslinger” suffered burns due to a broken water line during a Can-Am Midget Series event at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday. June 6 feature winner Jake Brown is second in the standings, followed by Brad Herron, Tyler Hendricks, and May 30 feature winner Aaron Turkey.
AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
June 6 feature winner Lee Winger is still at the top of the Thunder Stock standings, but his lead shrunk to just 8 points over Wyatt Van Wart, who was awarded the June 13 feature win. Van Wart is second the standings, followed by Billy Bleich, Jr., Rookie of the Year standings leader Chase Hess, Bryce Richardson, Jim Lampman, Steve Hess, Karl Sault, Ryan Dinning, and Dave Silverthorn, Jr.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Alex Schuts broke Tyler Lafantaisie’s winning streak last Friday, but Lafantaisie finished in the runner-up spot and continues to lead the Mini Stock standings. Team 66 (Jon Janssens and Brandon Janssens) is currently second in the standings, followed by Rookie of the Year standings leader Mark Bazuin, Team 81 (Alex Schuts and Lee Hils), Jason Lungaro, Team 79 (Steve Miller and Dan Miller), Lucas Lubin, Jonathan Ayrton, Dave Goodacre, and Tim DeBoer.
GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Max Chechalk became the fourth different winner in four weeks of Bomber competition this season with his victory last Friday, but June 6 feature winner Dusty DeBoer continues to lead the points standings. Opening night feature winner Joe Deboer is second, followed by May 30 winner Gillian Hils, Ashton Reekie, Paul Longboat, Clinton Nicholls, Max Chechalk, Gerald Burnham, Dustin Longboat, and Dalton King.
