by Tommy Goudge

(June 20, 2014) –  136 drivers signed in to race on Corr/Pak Merchandising “PST versus Corr/Pak” night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night. Jared Zimbardi, Paul Klager, Aaron Turkey, Wyatt Van Wart, Tyler Lafantaisie, and Max Chechalk visited Mobil 1 Victory Lane on a busy night at the track.

PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR VERSUS CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
Todd Hoddick and Alain Bergeron made up the front row for the first of three challenge events for Ohsweken’s weekly 360 Sprint Car teams against traveling Sprint Car tours this season. Bergeron led the first lap, but Jared Zimbardi blasted around the outside of both Hoddick and Bergeron before the 2nd lap was complete. Hoddick got around Bergeron and worked on chasing Zimbardi down as the leaders raced through traffic.

Jason Barney passed Bergeron for 3rd just before the halfway mark of the 25 lap feature, and used a lap 19 restart to get around Hoddick, and go after the win. Zimbardi survived a couple of restarts to take the win, while Barney fended off a hard-charging Glenn Styres for the runner-up spot. Styres took the third spot, followed by Hoddick, and 16th starter Jessica Zemken.

Heat races for the  car field were claimed by Glenn Styres, Todd Hoddick, Jason Barney, & Alain Bergeron, while Steve Collins won the “4 Laps of Fame” dash race, and Lee Ladouceur won the B-Main.

TUSA CANADA WEST MOD LITES
Derek Wagner and Josh Sliter were on the front row for the Mod Lite feature, and Wagner took off looking to add to his collection of Ohsweken trophies. Paul Klager spoiled Wagner’s party by running the New York driver down and passing him on the last lap to take the win. Wagner settled for second, followed by Jesse Hudson, Jeff May, and Dean Pronovost.

Heat races for the 15 car field were claimed by Josh Sliter and Jesse Hudson.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Mark Czuba and Mike Thorne started the Crate Sprint Car feature on the front row, and Czuba led the first 6 laps before 6th starter Aaron Turkey moved to the lead using the outside groove, and went on to win by almost 5 seconds over Thorne, Josh Shantz, Czuba, and Jake Brown. Turkey’s time of 4:16.714 set the first track record for the new Crate Sprint Car division for the 15 lap distance.

Heat races for the 11 car field were claimed by Mark Czuba and Jake Brown.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Kacey Huffman and Laura Hughes started the Thunder Stock feature on the front row, and contact early in the race ended with Dale Gyokery getting the worst of it, as his car got upside down. All drivers involved were uninjured, but several cars suffered heavy damage.

The race eventually turned into a duel for the win between Wyatt Van Wart and Dave Silverthorn, Jr, as Silverthorn had taken the lead from Dave Bitner, Jr. on lap 6, with Van Wart taking over on lap 15. Silverthorn made a comeback, but fell short by just 0.044 seconds at the finish line, as Van Wart held on for the feature win. Silverthorn took the runner-up spot, followed by James Thompson, Lee Winger, and Dave Bailey.

Heat races for the 33 car field were claimed by Dave Bitner, Jr., Ryan Dinning, Karl Sault, and Wyatt Van Wart while Billy Bleich, Jr. won the B-Main.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Kyle Nuell and Mike Taylor were at the front for the start of the Mini Stock feature, but it didn’t take long for Alex Schuts, Tyler Lafantaisie, and Mark Bazuin to get into the top 5. Those three drivers eventually separated themselves from the rest of the field, with Lafantaisie and Schuts putting on a show, trading Sprint Car-style slide jobs at each end of the track. Lafantaisie eventually prevailed and took his third win of the season at Ohsweken, followed by Schuts, Bazuin, Steve Miller, and Robin Elliott.

Heat races for the 31 car field were claimed by Mike Taylor, Mike Evers, Robin Elliott, and Alex Schuts, while Doug Erskine won the B-Main.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Dakota Potts and Tim Nuell began the Bomber feature on the front row, but Max Chechalk and Joe DeBoer quickly got to the front. Chechalk was able to get through traffic late in the race and stay ahead for his second win in a row, followed by Joe DeBoer, Gillian Hils, Dusty DeBoer, and Ashton Reekie.

Heat races for the 15 car field were claimed by Max Chechalk and Joe DeBoer.
