TULSA, Okla. (July 7, 2014) – Taking to the road once again, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real will make the trip north to “Big Sky Country” with the ASCS Frontier Region at the Electric City Speedway on Friday, July 11 and Billings Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 12.
The third year the National Arm of the ASCS Nation has made the trip to Montana; the Electric City Speedway has seen two winners in the past two visits. Washington’s Brock Lemley out dueled the National Tour on July 11, 2012 for his first National Tour triumph in the Peterson Motorsports No. 23n.
In a thrilling last lap pass in 2013, Tony Bruce, Jr. parked the Oil Medics No. 18 at the Great Falls oval.
The Billings Motorsports Park hosted the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour for the first time in 2013. With the assistance of legendary driver, Jimmy Sills, on preparing the track after rains delayed the race by 24-hours, Jason Johnson out lasted all for his first Montana victory.
Having finished on the podium seven times in the series 14 completed events so far in 2014, Brad Loyet carries a 26 point advantage into the Montana double-header over defending Lucas Oil ASCS Champion, Jason Johnson. The third time Loyet will have traveled to Montana with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, the Missouri shoe has not finished outside the top-ten in two visits to the Electric City Speedway, placing sixth in 2012, then third in 2013. In the series first visit to Billings, Loyet crossed the line fourth.
Like Loyet, Jason Johnson has also posted great finishes in Montana. Johnson was ninth in the series inaugural visit to the Electric City Speedway in 2012. The 2013 visit to Montana netted a win at Billings and a fourth place finish in Great Falls.
Jeff Swindell holds third in tour standings a mere 95 markers back with Johnny Herrera fourth. The pair are not short on experience at Montana ovals, having raced Outlaw events in the past. In 2013, Swindell ended an eight race streak of podiums at the Electric City Speedway with a seventh place finishes, but continued a streak of top-tens to 13 overall, the longest streak of the season.
Fifth place Aaron Reutzel trails by 126 going into the weekend in a close battle with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. as the pair sit only five points apart. Seth Bergman seventh, Blake Hahn eighth, Tony Bruce, Jr. ninth, and Matt Covington complete the top ten in tour standings. The trip is Hahn and Covington’s first with the National Tour.
Stiff competition awaits the National Tour. The one the locals will be watching is Joe Ramaker. Powering through the field from eighteenth at the Electric City Speedway in 2013, Ramaker nearly bettered that to a win before running out of laps to get around Tony Bruce, Jr.
Ramaker currently leads the ASCS Frontier Region by 76 with T.J. Hartman second. In four starts in 2014, Ramaker has topped the field three times, and has yet to finish outside the top five. The only race not won by the crafty veteran was taken off the final turn by T.J. Hartman on May 17 at the Electric City Speedway.
Kelly Miller is currently third in Regional standings with 2013 champion, Phil Dietz fourth. Trevor Kirkland completes the top five.
Gates at the Electric City Speedway on Friday, July 11 are scheduled to open at 5:00 P.M. (MT). Billings Motorsports Park opens at 6:00 P.M. (MT). For complete news, results, and information log onto http://www.ascsracing.com.
