Malsam Wins on Ladies Night Out at Skagit Speedway

Alger, WA — (August 2, 2014) — Ladies Night Out presented by The Silver Reef Hotel & Casino was held on Saturday night at Skagit Speedway with perfect summer weather greeting the large crowd. When the dust settled on the rapid moving evening, Taylor Malsam stood in victory lane with a wire-to wire 25 lap win in the 410 sprint car division in a race that saw no stoppages.

The 410 Sprint Car A Main saw only three flags thrown: Green, White and Checkered. Taylor Malsam jumped out to a huge advantage early and maintained it through most of the race. His only hiccup came around lap 20 as he was navigating slower traffic. One of the slower cars, the car washed up the track on the exit of turn four, leaving Malsam no room between him and the wall. After smacking the front stretch fence, Jason Solwold was able to close to within a half straight away of Malsam, but no further as Taylor held strong to take the win. Solwold was second and Jesse Whitney took third. Malsam set quick time. Kevin Smith and Skylar Gee won the heat races.

Tristin Thomas dominated the NW USAC HPD Midget Main event, leading all 20 laps in a caution free main event. Thomas started on the pole and had a huge advantage all race long before taking his first Skagit Speedway win and second of the year in the series. Chase Goetz was second and rounding out the podium in third was Lance Sargent. Heat winners were Thomas and Goetz.

Steve Parker picked up a win in the Sportsman Sprint car division. Jonathan Jorgenson led every lap of the feature but his engine had components that did not fit with the spirit and intent of the division rules, giving the victory to Parker who ran second for the entirety of the main event. Cory Samuelson was second and Cory Swatzina was third. Heat race winners were Robbie Price and Sean Johnson. Bill Rude ran the fastest qualifying lap.
