Atlanta, GA – August 17, 2014 – The United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters winged sprint cars are set to invade the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia on Friday, August 29th for the Wind Creek Casino & Hotel – Wetumpka USCS Sprint Car Shootout. The USCS sanctioned event is part of Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Labor Day weekend 2014 race date on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. The winged warriors of the USCS will light up the night immediately following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session with a 50-lap USCS winged sprint car main event on the quarter-mile paved AMS “Thunder Ring,” located on the front stretch of the speedway.
United Sprint Car Series founder and President, Pete Walton said, ”We are very excited about this opportunity for our drivers and race teams to be a part of this major racing event for the second year in a row. A number of drivers in NASCAR’s top divisions have excelled in sprint car racing previously. It will be an honor for the USCS to be racing in front of them again this year after a successful event last year. It was really exciting to be entertaining all of the great fans (30,000+) at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend. Fans who weren’t here ;ast year and who have never seen this type of racing are in store for an exciting evening on Friday, August 29th at AMS,” concluded Walton.
The Wind Creek Casino & Hotel – Wetumpka USCS Sprint Car Shootout format on August 29, 2014 will see the UCS winged sprint car competitors contest a practice session that will be followed by a qualifying session on Friday (August 29th) from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This three hour time frame will allow for two rounds of practice for each competitor followed by time trials and then a series of qualifying races to determine the final starting order for the 50-lap USCS Sprint Car Shootout finale.
The preliminary interest from sprint car competitors is again high for the Atlanta Motor Speedway USCS event. A field of some of the top winged sprint car drivers from across the nation are entered for only second-ever appearance of the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour (or any sprint car event) at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The United Sprint Car Series is the only winged sprint car series in the World that contests it’s Championship on both dirt and paved ovals. At 1,300 pounds and over 700 horsepower, winged sprint cars are pound for pound the World’s fastest and most powerful short-track cars. The USCS winged sprint cars are expected to reach speeds of approximately one hundred miles per hour (100 m.p.h.) around the quarter mile AMS “Thunder Ring.”
