With the fall season clearly upon us, the 2014 racing season is rapidly coming to a close. For the Buckeye Machine BOSS sprint teams, there could be no better way to wrap up another great season than on the high banks of THE most famous dirt track in the world. This Saturday, October 11th will find the tour at the legendary Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio as part of the “Sprintacular”.
The Sprintacular is the only event in Ohio that features 3 different classes of sprint cars with complete shows run in one night! The All Star Circuit of Champions winged 410 sprint cars and the NRA 360 winged sprint cars will be joining the traditional non wing Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series for what once again promises to be a “can’t miss” racing event for the fans. Last season, 119 sprint cars signed in for competition including an incredible 54 BOSS entries.
Four drivers will enter the gates of Eldora with a chance at claiming the BOSS championship. Russiaville, Indiana driver Dustin Smith holds a 10 point lead and hopes to become the first two time series champion. Smith, known as “The Hustlin Hoosier” earned the inaugural 2012 BOSS title in dramatic fashion at Eldora. In both 2012 (Smith) and 2013 (Tony Beaber) the eventual champion faced adversity and came through the B-Main. Then from the rear of the main, they drove through the field to earn a championship in spectacular fashion before a packed grandstand on short track racing’s most prestigious stage.
Wapakoneta, Ohio veteran Mike Miller, affectionately known as “The Magic Man” by BOSS fans, led the championship hunt for much of the season. Miller trails by 10 points and is the only serious threat to keep Smith from earning a second title. Also with a mathematical shot at the title are Michael Fischesser, “The Nati Nightmare” from Cincinnati, Ohio and Brandon Spithaler from Evans City, Pennsylvania. Spithaler, known as the “Evans City Earthmover” for his exciting rim riding style, is now the all time BOSS feature win leader.
The Buckeye Machine BOSS regulars will all be in action fighting for their share of more than $15,000 in cash and prizes awarded to the top 15 in points. Rounding out the current top 15 are: Derek Hastings (Forest, OH), Chuck Wilson (Toledo, OH), Aaron Middaugh (Polk, OH), Chad Wilson (Toledo, OH), Adam Miller (McDonald, PA), Logan Hupp (Columbus, IN), Bob McMillin (Wampum, PA), Joe Butera (Wampum, PA), Joe Liguori (Tampa, FL), Steve Little (Waynesfield, OH), and Andy Fike (Ashland, OH).
In three previous BOSS events at Eldora, three different drivers have graced victory lane. Luke Hall of Ludlow Falls, Ohio won the 2012 “Blue Collar Bash”. Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma won the 2013 “Sprintacular” and Elizabethtown, Indiana’s Chase Stockon scored the win earlier this season on “Family Fun Night”.
The standard 2014 BOSS purse is in effect paying $1,500 to win and $250 to start. Any driver unable to start the main event is guaranteed $100 tow money. Heat races will be the top four finishers thanks to our heat race sponsors: Burdette Builders (Sunman, IN), Lias Tire/American Racer (Indiana, PA), FAST Signs (Dayton, OH), Quest Restoration (Toledo, OH), S & H Nerfs (Piqua, OH), The Blue Room Restaurant (Kirby, OH) and Elliott’s Custom Trailer Sales (Warsaw, IN).
In typical BOSS style, multiple bonus awards will be available to teams. $50 bonus awards are supplied by The Bridge Restaurant (Sidney, OH) – Hard Charger Award, The Lynn Cook “A Racer’s Friend” – Hard Luck Award, and the Hochstetler Truck and Auto Repair (Ashland, OH) – Steel block award. There are also free tires awarded to the highest finisher on all 4 Hoosiers (courtesy of Hoosier Tire Midwest) and all 4 American Racers (courtesy of Lias Tire / American Racer). Finally, one lucky driver earns a bonus before even hitting the race track. Rusty and Cappie McClure of Ashland, Ohio provide a “Lucky Pill Draw” award for a free pit pass and hot dogs for the pit crew. BOSS is already working on exciting and unique bonus awards for 2015 as well!
With cool temperatures expected on Saturday, starting times have been moved up. Pit gates will open at 1 pm with the BOSS drivers meeting set for 3:45 pm. Fuel sales will end and pill draw will close at 4 pm. BOSS sprints will not fire engines until 5:15 with hot laps at 5:40. Racing action will begin at 6 pm. Working raceceivers and westhold transponders are required and will be available to rent. There are no registration or membership fees with BOSS and of course the tire rule is open. Payoff will be done at the BOSS tent after the main event.
General admission for ages 13 and up will be $20 with kids 12 and under just $4. Pit passes will be just $25 and the pit access is available only to ages 14 and up. Any kids 14-17 will be required to have a minor release filled out and signed by a parent or legal guardian.
