Holly, MI — (March 10, 2015) — Preparations for the April 3-4 Must See Racing season opener have swung into high gear. The inaugural “Southern Showdown” will see the Must See Racing Sprint Cars invade Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, North Carolina for the first-time ever.

The “Southern Showdown” is shaping up to be one of the biggest events on the 2015 Must See Racing calendar. Teams will be competing for a purse well over $21,000 dollars. In addition, both nights of racing action will be taped delayed for broadcast on MAVTV. The event will be part of the PASS Super Late Model “Easter Bunny 150” weekend.

Hickory Motor Speedway is one of the most historic tracks in the Carolina’s. The 3/8 mile, semi-banked track opened in 1951. In the early years, the track played host to several NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup) events. Hickory Motor Speedway was an annual stop on the Grand National schedule through 1971. The track has been nicknamed “The World’s Most Famous Short Track” and “Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars” over the years. The track has a seating capacity of over 13,000, which is impressive in itself.

Drivers who have won track championships at Hickory Motor Speedway over the years include: Junior Johnson, Ralph Earnhardt, Ned Jarrett, and Jack Ingram among others.

The appearance of “The Fastest Short Track Cars In The World” will mark only the third time in the last twenty-six years that 410 cubic inch winged asphalt sprint cars have made an appearance in the Carolina’s. The all-time Hickory Motor Speedway track record is all but certain to fall. The current track record of 12.112 seconds was set by Kevin Swindell on June 16, 2005.

The two-day program will feature two nights of racing action. Twin 25-lap qualifying races for the Must See Racing Sprint Cars will be featured on Friday night April 4. A 40-lap feature will cap off Saturday’s racing action. The weekend will also feature PASS Super and Pro Late Models, Legends, and USAC HPD Midgets.

Drivers who plan on competing in the Must See Racing event will be announced in the coming days at www.mustseeracing.com as well as Facebook and Twitter.
