Oswego, NY — (September 4, 2015) — Oswego Speedway’s Budweiser International Classic 200 will be led to the green flag on Sunday, September 6 by ‘The Hustler’ Michael Barnes, driving the Syrell Racing No. 68 Novelis Supermodified.

Barnes cranked just the second 15.8 second lap in the history of non-wing Supermodified racing at the ‘Steel Palace’ on Friday night with a lap of 15.899 seconds, just shy of Joey Payne’s 15.802 second record of one year ago.

The fast lap set by Barnes was worth $1,000 from ‘Fast 14’ Supermodified front row sponsor Corr/Pak Merchandising.

Joining Barnes in the 15 second club on Friday was former Mr. Supermodified David Danzer. Danzer, the final car to take time, set a lap of 15.910 seconds to join Barnes, Payne, and Kody Graham as the only drivers to ever run 15 second circuits in non-wing competition at Oswego.

Danzer’s lap was worth $500 from Corr/Pak Merchandising.

Following Barnes and Danzer to green on Sunday will be the second row of defending International Classic champion Otto Sitterly, clocking in at 16.007 seconds, as well as Joey Moriarty, at 16.045 seconds.

Only one other car managed to hit 16.0 and that was Graham in the No. 21, who will start 5th.

The remainder of the top ten qualifiers on Friday included Davey Hamilton, Michael Muldoon, Tim Devendorf, Bob Bond, and Dave Shullick Jr.

Drivers just making into the ‘Fast 14’ cut-off on Friday were Joe Gosek, Brandon Bellinger, Dave Gruel, and Bobby Santos.

Clocking in 14th fastest for Santos on Friday not only means he was the final car to lock into the show, but he also collects $500 from Total Seal as the ‘Fast 14th’ qualifier.

All drivers from 15th position on back in qualifying will have to time again on Sunday at noon in second round time trials.

Pat Lavery’s lap of 16.404 seconds was the 15th fastest time of the night, just missing the ‘Fast 14’.

A total of 38 Supermodifieds were in the pit area on Friday with Keith Shampine and the Buske Racing No. 66 not taking time.

The day saw no major incidents in Supermodified competition, although Shampine is believed to be sidelined for the weekend with mechanical issues.
