Taking on the USAC/CRA Series during the Louie Vermeil Classic at the Calistoga Speedway over the Labor Day Weekend, Ryan Bernal had a monster weekend that saw him score a Saturday night win before going toe-to-toe with Rico Abreu on Sunday night and finish in the second spot.

“We had an awesome racecar during both nights at Calistoga, and it was great to get this team a 410ci win,” Bernal said. “We have a very busy week ahead and this was a great way to get it started.”

Saturday night, Bernal got things started off by timing his Mike Phulps Motorsports No. 56 machine in third fastest.

Putting on a very impressive effort in his heat race, the Hollister, CA driver would race his way to the win, and put his Keizer Wheels/DMI/S&S Automotive No. 56 machine in the second row for the 30-lap A Main event.

On an extremely slick track, Bernal would quickly jump into the second spot as he chased after Richard Vander Weerd. With Vander Weerd leading the first 11 laps, Bernal would make his move on lap 12, and take command of the race.

As the track started to take rubber, Bernal was able to find it first and race his way to a very big feature event win.

Coming back on Sunday night, Bernal would again be fast out of the box as he timed the King Racing Products/Metal Works/Hoosier Racing Tires entry in fourth fastest.

Again picking up the heat race win, Bernal would transfer into the feature event where he lined up in the second row for the 30-lap affair. Running fourth as the race got underway, Bernal would again find himself battling with Rico Abreu as they raced toward the front of the field.

Getting into the second spot, Bernal was relentless in his pursuit of the defending race champion. Bernal would make a serious bid for the race lead in the closing laps, but a caution flag would negate his efforts and give Abreu a clear track for the final laps.

Though he couldn’t get by Abreu for the win, Bernal would close his weekend out with a very strong second place effort.

“It was a really strong weekend for us, and I am hopeful we can carry it into Petaluma on Monday night,” Bernal added. “I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work and their continued support.”

Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-40, Wins-9, Top 5’s-19, Top 10’s-24.
