Holly, MI — (October 1, 2015) — The 50th annual National Short Track Championships will offer a little something for everyone this weekend at Rockford (IL) Speedway. No less than twelve feature events will be contested over the three day weekend including a 50-lap feature for the Must See Racing Sprint Series (MSRSS) presented by ENGINE PRO ON Sunday afternoon.
The National Short Track Championships debuted in 1966 and saw a young Dick Trickle claim that first event. Over the last 50years the event has grown into one of the most prestigious season ending short track events of the calendar year. The three-day event is annually capped off with a 200-lap non-sanctioned Super Late Model event.
2015 will mark the second consecutive year that the MSRSS has been a part of this legendary event. This weekend’s MSRSS event will be the final event on the 2015 calendar and will be its season championship and final point’s race. Jimmy McCune is the current point leader and has all but locked up the 2015 title by virtue of his phenomenal season.
This weekend’s event has generated huge interest from several Illinois/Wisconsin area drivers. No less than six area drivers have expressed interest in competing including: Jason Cox, David Byrne, Tim Cox, David Gough, Allen Hafford, and Matt Vandevere.
The local drivers will be battling MSRSS regulars that include: Brian Gerster, Jimmy McCune, Jeff Bloom, Chris Neunschwander, Anthony McCune, and Ike Beasley among others.
The MSRSS will participate in a “Shake Down” hot lap session on Saturday and a full racing program highlighted by a 50-lap feature event on Sunday afternoon. Racing is set to begin at 12:30 pm.
