The much anticipated and newly named, USAC’s “The Week Of Indy” is coming up next week, leading up to the 100th running of the Indy 500. It all begins with the annual Tony Hulman Classic at the Terre Haute Action Track for the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars and the Scott’s Custom Colors UMP Modifieds. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 25.
Last season, damp and frigid weather set in on the originally scheduled Tony Hulman Classic, forcing a postponement. Eventually, the race was made up in conjunction with the Jim Hurtubise event in September. In that race, Robert Ballou came from the tenth spot to take the victory. In Modified action that night, former NASCAR star Ken Schrader took the trophy.
This year’s Hulman race on the 25th will be followed up, as usual, with the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday, May 26th. That event will feature the USAC Silver Crown Champ Cars and UMP Modifieds. The final race in “The Week Of Indy”, will be an event that moves to a new date, Friday night. Formerly held on Saturday, the USAC Silver Crown cars will be racing at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indy on Friday, May 27 in addition to the Cooper Tire USF2000 and Pro Mazda cars.
A three day adult SUPERTICKET is available for a 25% savings at just $60 to see all three events. The voucher will be good for a general admission pass to the Tony Hulman Classic at Terre Haute and the Carb Night Classic at Lucas Oil as well as a reserved ticket to the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Pit gates for the Tony Hulman Classic at the Terre Haute Action Track will open at 3:00, grandstands will open at 5:00, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:30. General admission will be $25 for adults, $15 for the infield, and children ten and under are free.
