The Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) were scheduled to run three consecutive nights, but the weather Gods saw it differently. Chris Donnelly took the win on Friday night at The Legion Speedway with Will Hull grabbing the win Saturday night at Bear Ridge Speedway. Sunday’s event at The Devils Bowl Speedway was washed out; makeup information on the event will be released at a later date.
Friday nights’ event was contested at The Legion Speedway, located in Wentworth, NH. Hudson, NH resident Luke Greenwood broke into the lead at the drop of the Green Flag, holding off persistent challenges from perennial top runner Chris Donnelly. Donnelly was finally able to take the lead on lap 23, using lapped traffic to his advantage. After taking the lead Donnelly would build continually build the lead and go onto victory in the 30-lap Feature. Kevin Chaffee, who claimed the second Spot on the track on the same lap that Donnelly took the lead, would finish second with Jake Williams third. Dan Douville was fourth with rookie Mike Chaffee fifth.
While the win for Chris Donnelly was nothing out of the ordinary, the equipment he did it with was. Chris utilized a new Mach-1 Chassis with an experimental 348ci wet sump small block motor and a spec Right Rear tire.
Saturday night the SCoNE organization invaded the Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT. Will Hull was on the move early in the Feature and claimed the top spot with three laps in the books. From there Hull has to survive pressure from Luke Greenwood, a single restart and lapped traffic, which at times was heavy. When the Checkers flew it was Will Hull for the win, the first of the season for him. Luke Greenwood crossed the line in second with Chris Donnelly making a late race charge to finish third. Steve Hutchinson was fourth and Tyler Austin completed the top 5.
