“We had some rough luck up in the Northwest, but our last night out we had a great car and were able to win our first race of the year.”

After a rough night in Lebanon, OR saw Cox’s brakes fade late in the feature event and relegate him to an 11th place finish, Cox and company checked in at the Coos Bay Speedway for what would be there final start of the week with commitments back in California drawing the team home.

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in eighth fastest, Cox used a monster run in his heat race from advance from fourth and pick up the win going away.

Lining up on the pole of the Dash, the Clarksburg, CA driver would pick up the win during that race as well and find himself on the pole of the 30-lap feature event. With some track work being done prior to the A, Cox would get off to a great start as moisture in the surface made for a lightening fast track in the opening rounds.

As the race went on, and the track blew off, Cox would be un-phased as he continued to set a dominant pace en route to his first win of the 2016 season.

Returning home to take on the King of the West Series on Saturday night in Hanford, CA, Cox would time the PM Truck Repair/LRB/Konnected machine in ninth fastest as he then finished fifth in his heat race.

Missing out on the Dash by one spot, Cox would grid the field from the ninth starting spot for the 30-lap feature. On an extremely slick surface with a tricky cushion, Cox would get up to the sixth spot and run there a majority of the race.

Late in the event, Cox would get to battling with Jason Meyers and DJ Netto, and the duo would both execute timely passes, and Cox would finish in the eighth spot.

Sunday night saw Cox’s busy week come to a close as he traveled to the Stockton Dirt Track for a rare Sunday night race that was being made up from a rainout during the spring.

Timing in third fastest on the 3/8 Stockton Dirt Track, Cox would advance to second from his fourth starting spot in his heat race and get back in the all-important Dash.

Lining up on the front row alongside Bud Kaeding, Cox would get the jump in turns one and two, but Kaeding would get him back in three and four and he would settle for second.

By way of his second place finish, Cox would line up on the front row of the 30-lapper as he was in search of his first ever KWS feature event win. Getting the jump when the race went green, Cox would lead the first lap before the caution flew.

The ensuing restart saw Kyle Hirst made a big move on him to take over the top spot, with Cory Eliason following suit a lap later. Running solidly in the third spot, Cox would hold down the final spot on the podium until the caution flew on the 10th lap.

The restart saw Tyler Walker and Jonathan Allard both get by, and as he tried to get the spots back he would get up over the cushion and lose several positions as he gathered himself back up. Doing what he could, Cox would get back up to finish in the eighth spot.

“Saturday night the track was really tricky, but I feel like I learned some things on the cushion,” Cox added. “Sunday night we had a good car, and I let the guys down. I need to learn to stay calm and not make stupid mistakes while fighting for spots. We have a really good car right now, so now I just need to do my job better.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!
