BRADFORD, Vt. — (July 23, 2016) — Bradford, VTThe Sprint Cars of New England invaded Bear Ridge Speedway Saturday Night July 23rd with 20 cars pitside. The night had many obstacles as a Thunderstorm swept through the area shortly before Hot Laps were scheduled to begin, dropping a significant amount of moisture on the track. High winds also knocked out the power to the entire area. As the track was worked back into shape by CV Elms and his track crew the decision was made to go to a Features only format for the evening, due to time constraints.
The result of the rain was a lightning fast, tacky track that provided wide open, no lift racing, as several chauffeurs said they circled the Quarter Mile speed plant without lifting off the throttle. Luckily the power returned just as darkness approached, allowing the program to be completed.
Christine Boesch darted into the lead at the drop of the green flag and held the lead until Rookie Mike Chaffee took advantage of Boesch’s slip in turn two to claim the top spot. Chaffee built a nice lead but the high flying Dan Douville was headed to the front from his 16th starting position. Douville caught Chaffee with fifteen laps complete and took the lead with an inside pass off turn four on lap seventeen. Meanwhile Luke Greenwood was marching to the front from his 14th starting position, arriving on Douville’s backside with a handful of laps left. As the duo navigated heavy lapped traffic in the Non-Stop event Greenwood slipped to the inside and nosed ahead of Douville a couple of times, even officially leading the white flag lap, but momentum from the outside lane was on Douville’s side as he rocketed back into the lead off turn two and took the win in a highly entertaining Feature. Luke Greenwood would finish second with Kevin Chaffee making some late race moves to advance to third from 17th. Mike Chaffee hung on for fourth with Matt Hoyt fifth at the Checkers.
The next event on the Sprint Cars of New England’s Schedule is August 5th at The Legion Speedway where the postponed final Leg of the Triple Crown Series from earlier in the season will be contested.
