– In action with the USAC West Coast 360’s for their final weekend of competition for the 2016 season, Richard Vander Weerd would run 10th on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway before scoring the win on Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA.

“Friday night we were a little too tight and the track was hard to pass on,” Richard Vander Weerd said. “Saturday we were strong all night long and got the job done.”

Making his first appearance of the year at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Vander Weerd would time the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in 10th fastest before finishing sixth in his heat race.

Moving into the 33-lap feature event, the Visalia, CA driver would grid the field from the sixth row, but would have trouble getting going on a very fast Ocean Speedway ¼ mile.

Thinking the track would slick off quicker than it did, Vander Weerd would have his hands full trying to wrestle a tight racecar around the speedway. As the race went on and track slowly widened out, Vander Weerd was able to pick up a couple of positions as he would finish 10th.

Heading to Hanford, CA for Saturday night’s USAC West Coast 360 season finale, Vander Weerd would get off to a much better start as he earned quick time honors.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Vander Weerd would flex his muscle as he surged around the 3/8 mile oval to pick up the win. As fate would have it, the inversion draw placed him on the front row of the 33-lap feature event, and in prime position to sweep the night.

When the green lights flashed on the series’ final A main of the season, Vander Weerd would slip to the second spot as things got sorted out. On the fourth circuit, Vander Weerd would use his momentum to take over the race lead and never look back.

Out in front, Vander Weerd would pace the next 29-laps as he would go on to ‘Park It’ for the third time in 2016.

“It is good to get a win and build up some momentum in what will be a bust streak with the 410,” Vander Weerd said. “Thanks to everyone for their hard work, and hopefully we can keep this up in the weeks ahead.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-23, Wins-3, Top 5’s-11, Top 10’s-17.

ON TAP: Richard will be back in action with the USAC West Coast 360’s for two events this weekend as he will travel to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night before racing at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday night.
