ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 17, 2024) – Logan Schuchart and Giovanni Scelzi opened the first of four nights of racing at Eldora Speedway Wednesday night in victory lane during the Double Down Duels for the High Limit Sprint Car Series.

Schuchart was victorious after a wild four car race for the lead between himself, Justin Peck, Brad Sweet, and Donny Schatz. At one point Schuchart, Peck, and Sweet were racing three wide at times for the lead before

In the second feature Scelzi was able to outrun a charging Kyle Larson, holding on after his advantage shrunk from 5.374 second lead with eight laps to go to 1.408 seconds at the finish for his first career Eldora Speedway victory.

Feature Event #1

At the initial star Garret Williams drove into the lead with Schuchart in pursuit. Williams continued to pull away as Justin Peck began to challenge Schuchart for second when the red flag appeared with eight laps complete when Carson Macedo got into the outside wall in flipped between turns one in tow. Macedo was able exit the car under his own power.

During the restart Schuchart was able to gain momentum off turn two and drive under Williams on the other end of the racetrack for the lead on lap nine. Williamson was able to counter initially, but Schuchart was able to get by Williamson and maintain the top position.

Shortly after Schuchart took the lead, Justin Peck and Brad Sweet started to close in on Schuchart after dropping Williamson to fourth on lap 11. Sweet and Schuchart exchanged slide jobs one lap later as Donny Schatz joined the trio to produce a four-car race for the lead.

Just as the lead race was heating up, another caution appeared with 12 laps in when Buddy Kofoid slowed with a cut right rear tire. Rico Abreu also went to the work area with a tire issue during the caution.

Abreu was able to join the restart while Kofoid did not make it back out but caught break when the field only made it through one corner before the caution flag appeared again for Corey Day ending up sideways in turn one with front end damage.

During the single file restart Schuchart and Peck exchanged the lead with Schuchart maintaining the lead on lap 13.

On lap 17, Sweet was able to dive between Peck and Schuchart to take the lead in turns one and two, but Schuchart was able to counter off turn two driving back into the lead. One lap later Peck and Sweet started to exchange slide jobs for the second position with Sweet taking the position on lap 20.

On lap 22 Schuchart approached slower traffic, which allowed Sweet, Peck, and Schatz to close in. With two laps to go Schatz was able to drive under Peck and Sweet, who had exchanged slide jobs for second on the previous lap and took the second spot.

Schatz was able to get under Schuchart off the final corner but could not make the pass as Schuchart held for the win. Schatz, Sweet, Peck, and Anthony Macri rounded out the top five.

Feature #2

Scelzi and Sye Lynch started on the front row during the second main event. Scelzi was able to take the lead with Lynch and Brian Brown in tow. Behind them Tyler Courtney and Kyle Larson exchanged slide jobs, nearly making contact in turns three and four when Larson slid up the track.

During that action Brown was able to dispose of Lynch for second, leaving Lynch to contend with Larson and Courtney. Lason got to second on lap 12 and immediately pressured Brown for second. Larson took the position from Brown after exchanging slide jobs, making the pass going into turn one.

While the race for second position was taking place, Scelzi had built up a lead of over five seconds by slicing through slower traffic. Larson was able to cut down that advantage as Scelzi was held up by some of the lapped cars towards the end of the race. At the finish, Larson had cut the advantage significantly, but it wasn’t enough as Scelzi picked up his first career Eldora Speedway victory. Larson, Courtney, David Gravel, and Spencer Bayston rounded out the top five.

Rico Abreu was the fastest overall in qualifying turning a lap of 12.985 seconds. Kerry Madsen was the fastest in the second group of cars in the split field format with a lap of 13.084 seconds.

Bryce Lucius, Gary Taylor, Daison Pursley, and Brock Zearfoss won heat races for Flight A while Jacob Allen, Kraig Kinser, Tanner Holmes, and Cory Eliason won heat races for Flight B.

The B-Main events were won by Carson Macedo and Emerson Axsom.
