Inaugural $5,000-to-Win, $500-to-Start “Capitani Classic” at Knoxville

The inaugural “Capitani Classic” for winged 410-cubic-inch sprint cars, will take place on Sunday, August 5, at the Knoxville Raceway as part of the eleventh annual Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week. The 25-lap, 24-car ‘A’ main will pay $5000 to win and $500 to start, and will be a points-paying round for the Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series.

Terry McCarl and Clint Garner are certainly no strangers to Knoxville’s Victory Lane, but Tony Shilling was making his first trip, on Pizza Hut 360 Twin Features Night at Knoxville. McCarl won for the 52nd time in the 410 class, while Garner took his 15th career win in the first 360 main event.

anny Lasoski inched closer to the magical 100 mark with his 98th career win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night. The Dover, Missouri driver made it two wins in a row aboard the Creason Pipeline Services #33. Point leader, Clint Garner, won the 360 feature, while Mike Van Haaften also made it two wins in a row in the 305 class.
