USAC Silver Crown Series

Five past “Bettenhausen 100” winners headline the expected list of entrants for this Saturday’s 81st appearance of champ car racing at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

The hills are calling. And when you hear them, you have to answer. There’s no place like Indiana’s Salem Speedway on the USAC Silver Crown schedule. Thirty-three degrees of steeply banked turns around a .555-mile paved oval built for pure speed. High speed.

The half-mile, high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway has been a home to USAC racing since the club’s inception in 1956. Throughout its 49-race history at the track, Silver Crown cars have paid the famed track on four occasions, and none until this decade.
