Thompson Carries Good Form into Home WSS Round

From Daniel Powell

Currently sitting sixth in the Parramatta City Raceway (PCR) Track Championship point standings and nearly pulling off a feature race victory in last weekend’s Invitational event has filled James Thompson with confidence heading into this Saturday night’s third round of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship that is to be held at PCR.

Thompson, driving his NSW # 22 Hills Motorcycles supported Maxim, always enjoys the challenge of when the WSS Championship ‘Top Guns’ come to his home track and he is hoping to stand tall and finish the feature race somewhere inside the top 10.

“When WSS hits town you know that you’re in for a tough night. It’s going to be important to qualify strongly and start as high up in the feature race field as possible in order to give yourself the possible chance to achieve a good result,” enthused Thompson. “PCR is tough on a normal night but when the WSS guys arrive it raises that bar even higher, so you need to be on top of your game from the get go or otherwise you’ll get left behind in the B-main.”

Last Saturday night Thompson took part in the Invitational event at PCR and nearly came away with the feature race spoils after he was arguably one of the fastest drivers of the night.

“We were fast all night in difficult track conditions and in the feature race we were sitting second and at just after mid race distance I tried an unsuccessful slide job for the lead and it resulted in contact being made with the car ahead of me and the race was declared as we had both spun out,” Thompson explained. “It was good to have the extra track time, as with the really hot weather the track is 99% of the time going to go slick and this weekend for WSS should be no different, so it’s good to know that we’re quick no matter what track conditions are thrown up.”
