The 2009/10 East Coast Pipeline Speedweek will officially be launched on Tuesday December 22 in the heart of Adelaide in the busy shopping precinct of Rundle Mall.

NASR Competition and Operations Manager Paul Trengove said the promotion will reach thousands of people, some of whom may never have seen a Sprintcar before. “At this time of year Rundle Mall is packed with Christmas shoppers, families visiting the Magic Cave and office workers on extended lunch breaks so the sight of two Sprintcars sitting in the middle of the Mall will attract a lot of attention. We will also have grid girls handing out posters and a TV displaying action clips as we launch the East Coast Pipeline Speedweek.”

Speedweek is a mini series within the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars championship that begins in Adelaide on Boxing Day and takes in stops at Murray Bridge (Dec27), Mount Gambier (Dec28), Geelong (Dec 30) and concludes at the seaside holiday town of Warrnambool on New Years Day. The torturous 5 nights of racing in 7 days pushes teams and drivers to the limits with over 40 cars expected at each round with thrills guaranteed.

East Coast Pipeline director Barry Waldron is delight to be involved. “I get a lot of enjoyment out of speedway and want to help get it out there so more people become involved. The (Sprintcar) team does not want for anything and hopefully we have lifted the bar with the B-Double Semi Trailer and simulator. It’s $2 a ride and all money will be given to Care Flight.

“We also plan to add a marquee to the side of the trailer for corporate guests. The CEO of Orcon Steel will be in Adelaide for the opening Speedweek round and Stuart Smith from the Orcon V8 Supercar team was at Parramatta and we went to the Sydney street race so it is great to be involved. I have sponsored the series for the betterment of the sport and just want to help promote speedway.”

The East Coast Pipeline Speedweek launch will be held in Rundle Mall at the Myer Centre end from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday December 22 so make sure you come along and have a look. Meanwhile Round 1 of the East Coast Pipeline Speedweek will be held at Speedway City, Virgina on Saturday December 26 followed by Murray Bridge Speedway the following night.
