Race fans and drivers of all types will find something to their liking at Warrensburg’s own Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) during the 2010 race season. Promoters Earl and Susan Walls and the entire staff at the speedway are set to roll out the most aggressive schedule ever assembled for the high banked clay oval with twenty nights of weekly races and a variety of special events planned.
Open-wheel race fans will be pleased as both sprint and midget cars make several appearances throughout the year. The first such appearance takes place on Friday, April 30th when the ASCS and WoW Sprint Car series both converge on the track for what is sure to be one of the highlight races of the season. Both ASCS and WoW will return for a second appearance late in the year on Friday, September 10th. On both occasions, the 600cc Micro Midgets will also compete during the sprint car races! These are not the only occasion open-wheel cars will race at CMS next season. The Ozark Mountain Midget Series (OMMS) will also make two appearances in 2010. The first OMMS race takes place during the annual Memorial Day weekend races on Friday, May 28th with the second race occurring on Friday, July 2nd during the annual Independence Day weekend Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl.
Once again, the CMS schedule is highlighted by the annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl weekend of events, which is expanding to three days of competition next year! Things get underway on Friday, July 2nd with the ULMA late models competing for inside row starting positions for the following night’s $1,500-to-win main event. Also on Friday, the OMMS joins the street stock drivers, who will make a rare Friday night appearance in a non track point’s night of competition. On Saturday, the late models return to settle the outside starting row and their big-money event as the ‘mighty’ modifieds kick off their $5,000-to-win weekend with night one inside row qualifying. The weekend concludes on Sunday, July 4th with modifieds competing for the outside row starting positions in an all-new program, capped off by the 40-lap, $1,000-to-start, main event. The B-Modifieds and Street Stocks will also take part in Sunday’s action with their regular weekly competition. The night also features a huge fireworks display in celebration of Independence Day!
Before the season begins, drivers have two chances to pre-register and save money for weekly competition at the speedway. The annual Registration and Rules Review Meeting takes place from 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, January 23rd on the grounds of Grover Park in Warrensburg, Missouri. CMS Personnel will also be on hand at the annual Bodee’s Auction and Trade Show the following weekend on Saturday/Sunday, January 30th and 31st in Sedalia, Missouri. Schedules, car class rules, and general track rules will be readily available for attendees. Registration in all weekly divisions at the track is $50 until March 1st, at which time the price increases to $60. Car class rules are currently available at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Despite some tough working conditions due to recent weather, progress continues on the new front side admission, concessionaire, and restroom facilities at the speedway. Once the project is complete, CMS patrons will notice a visible change upon their arrival at the track and experience a more user-friendly night at the races thanks to the improvements. Couple these changes with the recently upgraded new clay racing surface and it is clear to see CMS will be your dirt of choice for Saturday night racing in West-Central Missouri and the Kansas City Metro!
