RUTHERFORD LEADS VRA SPRINTS TO VENTURA SATURDAY

VENTURA, CA – JUNE 15, 2010… The powerful 360 cubic inch Sprint Cars of the Ventura Racing Association are back in action this Saturday, June 19th, for their eleventh round of competition. The Senior Sprints, Senior Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, and Go Karts will also battle at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. The Front Gates will open at 3:00pm with Racing to start at 5:30pm at “The Best Little Dirt Track In America.”

Ojai’s Troy Rutherford will lead a talented roster of drivers in Saturday’s competition. The point leader has had an outstanding season to date, with two main event wins, ten top-10 finishes, and seven heat race victories. The pilot of the Trench Shoring / L&H Consulting #11 entry had a second place finish on June 5th and now enjoys a 240 point advantage over Reseda’s Kevin Kierce.

Kevin Kierce has had an excellent season as well in the Fast Undercar / Direct Tire car. The 2-time and defending series champion has one feature win, eight top-10 finishes and three heat race victories on the season. The 1999 IMCA Sprint Car Champion finished third on June 5th and will look to cut into Rutherford’s point lead on Saturday.

Sitting third in the point standings is Ventura’s Greg Taylor. Driving the Taylor Trucking & Crane Service / Four Paws Pet Grooming #7 entry, Taylor has two feature wins, nine top-10 finishes, and two heat race wins. The 2007 Champion had a fifth place finish on June 5th and is poised to make another championship run.

Camarillo’s Josh Ford is fourth in the point chase. The pilot of the #73 King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machine entry has one feature victory, seven top-10 finishes, and three heat race wins. The former USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year finished ninth on June 5th. Look for Josh to have a strong run on Saturday.

Palmdale’s Rick Hendrix is fifth in the point standings. Driving the Rick’s Gate Works Inc. / Wilwood Disc Brakes #15 car, Hendrix has one feature victory, six top-10 finishes, and four heat race wins. The 1998 USAC Western Midgets Champion scored an eighteenth place finish on June 5th. The veteran driver will be in the mix on Saturday.

Among the other top contenders expected to be in action are Quartz Hill’s Steve Conrad, Camarillo’s Brian and Brent Camarillo, Rialto’s Don Gansen, Reseda’s Justin Kierce, “The Rocket” Ronnie Case of Camarillo, and 2006 Champion “Hollywood” Luis Espinoza of Castaic.
