Fast Track 360 Sprint Car Summer Shoot Out Weekends Falls to Rain

By Dean Reynolds

ELBRIDGE, NY – After a complete wash out on Friday night, the first annual Fast Track 360 Summer Shoot Out at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park was looking to get the finale in on Saturday night. The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) had the largest contingent of the stout and talented 49 car field that saw the very best from the United Racing Company (URC) and the ASCS Patriots looking for the $3,000 top prize.

However, Mother Nature again shows her power and strength when the third heat was on the track which saw the eight lap qualifying event shortened by one lap. After a 30 minute wait and very heavy rains it was decided to cancel the rest of the event.

Mertztown, Pa’s and URC regular Josh Weller timed the fastest (17.795) just edging two-time ESS champion Steve Poirier (17.817). Winning the three heats were many-time ESS competitor Blake Breen, defending ESS champion Justin Barger and two-time URC feature winner in 2010 Trevor Lewis winning the final heat before the rain forced the event to be checkered one lap early.

With the full schedule from all three groups, it was decided not to make up the event this year. Competitors will be returning on Oct. 8th at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds with the very same $3,000 to win, $250 to start event. Wristbands from the Rolling Wheels rain out will be honored for that event.

The next event on the Lucas Oil Tour will be on Friday night, August 6th at the Mohawk International Raceway. It’s “Mohawk Madness” presented by Mohawk Racing Parts, the 25 lap A-Main will pay $2,500 to win, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third. Also, to add to the importance of the event it will award points for the overall Lucas Oil title, the Northwood 2 Construction/LaSalle Motorsports Canadian Sprint Car Series and the SUNY Canton Series.
