Terre Haute, IN — Blake Fitzpatrick is having the best season of his young career as a sprint car driver, and it can get a lot better with a win at his home track this weekend.
The USAC National Sprint Car Series rolls into the Terre Haute Action Track for the final time this season, with the First Financial Bank Jim Hurtubise Classic presented by Dorsett Mitsubishi set for Saturday night, and Fitzpatrick plans on being at the front when the checkers fall.
The 19 year old Terre Haute native certainly has momentum at his back.
Fitzpatrick picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, capturing the KING of Non-Wing feature Saturday night at Lincoln Park Speedway, then followed that up by putting his #10 First Financial Bank sponsored sprint car in Victory Lane Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt.
With his Labor Day weekend success Fitzpatrick now owns 6 wins in 2010.
The Saturday night win sets up a showdown of sorts between Fitzpatrick, and the driver that finished second to him at Lincoln Park…Jon Stanbrough. Stanbrough already has two wins at the Action Track this season and has established himself as the winningest sprint car driver in the history of the historic half-mile.
The Action Track ticket office opens Saturday afternoon at 3pm, with fan gates set to open at 4pm. Hot laps are scheduled to get underway at 6pm. Adult tickets start at $15, with kids 12 and under free in all sections.
In addition to the on-track action fans can also view more than two dozen historic race cars at the IVY TECH Vintage Race Car Show. The vintage car displays are free and open to the public starting Saturday afternoon at 1pm in the Outdoor Pavillion at the Vigo County Fairgrounds.
