Baytown, TX—February 27, 2011—The well known mantra “You have to crawl before you walk,” certainly rings true in the racing world when new teams are formed or drivers join new teams. For Kraig Kinser and Parsons Motorsports, the team continued to make strides this past weekend using a solid 10th-place finish at Royal Purple Royal to gain momentum as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series heads west for seven races at six different tracks over the next five weeks.
Kinser began Saturday with a very strong sixth-place effort in time trials at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston, which put him third in the third heat race. He would finish in that same spot, to line up 11th for the 40-lap main event at the state-of-the-art ¼-mile, which is one of the nicest facilities the series visits all season. The third generation driver was running 10th near the halfway point of the race when a spin off turn two sent him to the back on the restart. He worked his way back up over the second half of the contest to finish 10th to earn his second Top-10 finish of the season aboard the Casey’s General Store Maxim with Kistler power under the hood.
The weekend opened for Kraig and the World of Outlaws at Pike County Speedway in Mississippi. It marked the first time the native of Bloomington, Indiana had competed at the 3/8-mile since 2005 and the first time the series had raced there since 2007. In time trials, Kinser gained three-tenths-of-a-second on his second lap to just miss the heat race invert, timing in 16th in the three-heat race program. He would line up fifth in the third heat race and finish third as well. Kraig would start 15th in the main event and worked his way up to 13th in the early going. He was running 15th when he spun on the 10th lap. Kinser would end up 17th at the finish.
Kinser currently is 12th in the World of Outlaws championship standings with a couple of Top-10 finishes and is just 12 markers out of the Top-10 and 37 points out of the Top-Five.
A quick turnaround is in store this week, as Kinser and the Parsons Motorsports team will make the nearly 1,500 mile tow to “Sin City” for two nights of racing at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Wednesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 3.
Kraig on Pike County:
“We got a little behind after time trials and worked hard all night to get back. It was our first time down there in quite a while and we learned a few things that we can use down the road on a track like that.”
Kraig on Royal Purple Raceway:
“It was a good finish after the spin. Everyone on this Casey’s General Store team is working hard and we are continuing to mesh and learn together. We have a few tracks coming up that I have had some good runs at and have a lot of experience at, so I am looking forward to that.”
