Oxnard, CA — Ventura Raceway will open its 2011 season on Saturday night March 5, with a full program of short track racing action on its clay oval at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA. On that night we will feature VRA Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Kids Classes and our new VRA Mod Lite Class. All the 2010 series champions will be back to try to defend their 2010 efforts and go for another championship.

VRA Sprint Cars will be led into the night by 2010 series champion Troy Rutherford. These racers race 360 cubic inch V8 powered sprint cars and hit speeds of over 80 mph on Ventura’s 1/5 mile oval. Races are always fast and furious with thrills on every lap.

VRA Dwarf cars race in two divisions, Seniors for the over 45 year old drivers and Professional for the younger hard chargers and any age driver ready to challenge them. Dwarf cars are powered by motorcycle engines and are downsized sedans, coupes and pick up trucks based on 1930-1940 design. George Calvo, in Seniors and Angel Figueroa will be back to defend their 2010 championship efforts.

IMCA Modifieds are V8 powered open wheel racers. Austin Rodarte will be back to defend his championship against his brother Aaron and many other fine drivers.

Our kids divisions are Mini Dwarf Cars in the Piston and Super Charger Divisions. Racers from 5-12 race these cars on a special infield track. The Junior Midgets are 15 hp open wheel racers for drivers 12 -16. Brennan Rogers will try to defend his 2010 series championship.

Our final class racing tonight is our new Mod Lite class. These cars are downsized open wheel modified cars using motorcycle engines. They are the size of a VRA Dwarf Car. They will be making their debut Saturday night.
