BRUCE JR. OVERCOMES OBSTACLES AT DEVIL’S BOWL

By Inside Line Promotions

MESQUITE, Texas (March 29) – Tony Bruce Jr. was really good in one race each night at the 38th annual Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals.

Unfortunately for Bruce Jr., it wasn’t the feature either night at the famed ½-mile oval in Mesquite, Texas. He finished 13th on Friday and 14th on Saturday.

“Saturday night basically sucked,” Bruce Jr. said. “We were terrible in the A Main. I kept the car a little bit free because we were too tight the night before. I just didn’t go far enough on the setup on the race car and completely missed it.”

Earlier in the night, Bruce Jr. rocketed from eighth to third in his heat race, which earned him enough points to start eighth in the 30-lap feature.

“We were really fast when the track was wet,” Bruce Jr. said.

He had a similar outcome on Friday, when he was able to put the car anywhere he wanted in the B Main. He went from eighth to second and advanced to the feature, where he started 19th.

However, the car was too tight and Bruce Jr. wasn’t able to drive through the corners like he needed to make his way to the front.

“There really wasn’t much in turns one and two except on the bottom, so you just had to get in line and try to get something done in turns three and four,” he said.

Despite the obstacles, Bruce Jr. ranks seventh in the ASCS National Tour standings.

“We had a lot of positive stuff to take out of this weekend,” he said. “We just gotta get back in the rhythm. It’s a long season. We’ll just stay positive and move forward.”

Bruce Jr. will take this weekend off before returning to the track for an ASCS Midwest Region doubleheader at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., April 8-9.
