Bill Balog & B Squared Motorsports: “Hall of Fame & Knoxville Raceway”

From B Squared Motorsports

5/12/11 – The B Squared Motorsports team & their driver, Bill Balog headed to Knoxville, IA this past weekend for round #2 of the 2011 Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint season. Prior to the nights racing action, the team had a meet & greet at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in the afternoon. Bill & the team met with numerous fans that were making their way to the track for the night’s action. We would like to Thank, Bob Baker & the rest of staff at the NSCHoF for all the hospitality & we look forward to working with them in the future.

Up next on the days agenda was racing action at the famed Knoxville Raceway, the night started off with Bill turning the 13th quickest time in qualifying out of the 43 cars present. The qualifying time would line up the Hoeft Builders 17B in the 3rd position for heat #1. After the 5th place car flipped in turn 1 of the opening lap, the field was realigned & would race the remaining lap non stop, Bill would bring home a 4th place finish, which was good enough to transfer straight in to the 20 lap main event.

Bill took the green flag in the 20 lap feature from the 4th position & quickly moved up to 2nd place on the opening lap. He would continue to hold down the 2nd place for a number of laps despite the competition starting to breathe down his neck. After a handful of laps were complete, the handling on the car began to go away & he soon found himself sitting in 5th place, where he would stay for a number of laps until a caution came out. On the ensuing restart, Bill didn’t get the start he had hoped for & lost a few more spots. By the time the checkered flag flew, he had fallen back to the 11th position.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA sprints have this coming weekend off, before resuming next weekend at Fountain City Raceway in Fountain City, WI on the 20th of May & then Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI on the 23rd.

The team tentatively plans on competing this coming weekend with the MSA 360 Sprints on Friday at the Manitowoc County Fairgrounds & Saturday at the Sheboygan County Fair Park.
