Rain Postpones World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Event at I-96 Speedway to Memorial Day

From Luetters

LAKE ODESSA, Mich. – May 21, 2011 – Rain continues to be a thorn in the side for many racing series across the country. The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is no different as soggy conditions Saturday night at I-96 Speedway delayed racing action for the seventh time during the 2011 campaign. Track and series officials worked feverishly throughout the day and night but ultimately the track proved to be too soft to race on safely.

“We tried everything we could in order to get tonight’s event in the books but the track was just too wet,” said SLS Promotions. “We appreciate the fans patience all afternoon and evening but when we realized that the track wasn’t in good enough shape to bring emergency equipment, we had no other choice but to postpone due to safety issues.”

Pit gates will open at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 30, with spectator gates opening at 3 p.m. Hot laps begin at 5:30 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing action begins at 6:30 p.m. For all ticket questions, contact SLS Promotions at 815-344-2023 or online at www.SLSPromotions.com.

Four-time champion Donny Schatz picked up his first victory of 2011 at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park on Friday, May 20. Schatz had to hold off two hard-charging drivers in Craig Dollansky and Tim Shaffer for his 106th career win. Joining the trio in the top-5 on the one-third mile oval was Sam Hafertepe Jr. and 2010 series champion Jason Meyers.

The Outlaws now head for the Dirt Track at Charlotte for the Outlaw Showdown on Friday, May 27th
