2011 King of the West Golden State Sprint Car Series

From Gary Thomas

Silver Dollar Speedway Friday June 10 & Southern Oregon Speedway Saturday June 11

What:

The Golden State King of the West Sprint Car Series is set for a big double-header weekend that will be kicked off with this Friday’s “Tribute to Gary Patterson/ Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial” at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway.

The series attempted to race at the famed quarter-mile bullring on May 7, but a pesky rain system moved over the area just before heat race competition. All of the special awards from that night’s Bradway Memorial will carry over into this coming Friday’s event, as we pay honor to a pair of legends.

The following night on Saturday June 11 KWS will then make the trek up to the Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, Oregon. It will be the sixth appearance for the Golden State 410’s at the track, which has become a traditional stop on way to the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in Washington.

When:

On Friday June 10 the front grandstand gate will open at 5pm, with qualifying at 6:30 and racing scheduled to begin around 7.

On Saturday June 11 the front grandstand gate will open at 4pm, with qualifying just after 5pm and racing to follow.

The Silver Dollar Speedway is located at 2357 Fair Street on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico, California. The office number is (530) 350-7275.

About the tracks:

The Silver Dollar Speedway is a high-banked quarter-mile clay oval and is considered one of the most famous dirt tracks in the country. The all-time Golden State KWS 410 track record at SDS was set by Jonathan Allard on May 9, 2009 at a time of 11.119 seconds.

The Southern Oregon Speedway is a one-third mile clay oval with the all-time track record being 10.930 set by Donny Schatz on August 30, 2006. Previous Golden State 410 winners at the track include Kyle Larson, Tim Kaeding, Tim Shaffer and Brent Kaeding on two separate occasions.

Last June at Silver Dollar Speedway and Southern Oregon Speedway:

Vancouver, Washington’s Zach Zimmerly became the youngest winner in Golden State 410 history when he captured the Tribute to Gary Patterson last June at Silver Dollar Speedway. Brent Kaeding finished second with Jonathan Allard in third, Sean Becker fourth and Jason York rounding out the top-five.

Eventual Golden State 410 champion Kyle Larson raced to victory at the Southern Oregon Speedway last June, holding off a furious late-race charge from Jonathan Allard, who ended up a close second. Brent Kaeding finished third while Willie Croft and Logan Forler completed the top-five in the 30-lapper.
