– WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 20) – Last weekend was a bit hectic to say the least.

First, the USCS race at Beebe Speedway in Beebe, Ark., was rained out on Friday. Then, Saturday’s USCS event at Malden Speedway in Malden, Mo., suffered the same fate, which forced Tony Bruce Jr. to hustle for an option to race.

“Weather kind of messed us around a little bit,” he said. “We rushed over to West Memphis on Saturday and were able to get in that show.”

The Clifford and Don Young owned team competed at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. – a high-banked, ¼-mile dirt oval. In his second race at the track this season, Bruce Jr. drove from sixth to fifth in his heat race.

“I probably could have been more aggressive,” the Liberal, Kan., native said. “It was one of those deals where the last two times that I’ve ran Clifford’s car I’ve waded it up. I just didn’t get after it in the heat race like I should have.”

Bruce Jr. lined up 15th in the 20-lap feature. However, everyone bottlenecked in turn one on the start and he found himself near the back less than a lap into the race.

“Once I was able to move up to the top, I could get going pretty good,” Bruce Jr. said. “It was pretty much run down a car, pass it, run down another car, pass it and so on.

“I think we only had one caution, so we were only bunched back up one time. Twenty laps on a ¼-mile track goes pretty quick.”

Bruce Jr. rallied to finish ninth, which was his 17th top-10 finish of the season.

“All in all, it wasn’t too bad,” he said. “I didn’t tear anything up this time and we were able to advance.”

Bruce Jr. will compete this Friday and Saturday at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial, which is an ASCS National Tour event at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.
