Reidy Battles through WSS Opener

By Daniel Powell

The opening round of the 2011/12 season World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship didn’t exactly go according to plan, but Danny Reidy still managed to salvage a credible result by night’s end.

A poor qualifying result (21st) in time trials haunted the NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs supported Maxim driver throughout the remainder of the night at Queensland’s premier track, Archerfield Speedway.

Despite managing a pair of third places in his qualifying heat races, Reidy managed to just avoid the B-main to claim the final direct feature race transfer spot on offer – 14th. In the feature race, Reidy made instant progress by moving inside the top 10, but all of that good work came undone on the 12th lap after a car that had spun in front of him and he was unable to avoid making contact. This caused substantial damage that affected the car’s handling and for the remainder of the distance he battled on and finished just outside the top 10 in 11th.

“We bombed out in time trials due to a late marble draw, and with the way that the World Series format is setup it puts you behind the eight ball from the outset,” said Reidy. “After time trials we were chasing our tail for the rest of the night, but in the feature race I was looking good for a strong finish only to have that contact with another car and from then onwards I struggled.”

Reidy and his team are now regrouping in readiness to bounce back at this Saturday night’s (December 3) second round of World Series Championship at Dubbo’s Morris Park Speedway. It’s going to be the WSS debut for the Western NSW track. For Reidy, this will be only his second ever visit.

Reidy would like to thank, Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs, Titan Plant Hire, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines, for all of their 2011/12 season support.
