Tulsa, OK — (January 14, 2012) — Third generation driver Donnie Ray Crawford died on Sunday morning after being shot during a family dispute. Tulsa Channel 6 reports that the 24 year old Crawford was shot early Saturday morning during a family dispute.

Crawford was the first Oklahoma driver to win a Chili Bowl preliminary feature in spectacular style last season and has been highly touted as one of the best up and coming drivers in open wheel racing. Crawford also saved Harli White from a terrible fire in a micro sprint in 2008. White healed well enough to race again and also competed at the Chili Bowl Nationals this year.

In honor of Crawford tonight’s feature at the Chili Bowl will be extended to 55 laps, Crawford’s regular car number.
