Chico, CA — (March 9, 2013) — Rio Linda’s Scott Hall showed us all he means business in the 2013 race season.  The wingless bad boy was fresh off his win at the Sherm Toller Memorial the weekend before and tonight backed that up with the 20 lap feature event win on night number two of the Silver Cup.  Hall also won this race in 2012 and cemented his name as one of the best spec sprint drivers in Northern California.  His brother Tommy Hall celebrated in victory lane by dropping his pants and posing for pictures with the winner’s board.  The race also marked the first point race of 2013 for the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints Shootout Series.  A solid car count of 18 wingless spec sprints entered tonight’s race.

The track conditions tonight were completely different than the night before.  The track was slick and a little dusty.  Traditionally this doesn’t bode well for the wingless sprints at Chico.  While we did see a plethora of cautions the race itself had some drama and seemed to entertain the big crowd at Silver Cup.  Napa’s Joe Stornetta rocketed out to the early lead.  He paced the field for the first 12 laps.  On lap nine, Hall passed Rowdy McClenon for the second spot.  Three laps later Hall laid a little front bumper to Stornetta’s rear bumper.  This moved Stornetta up the track and Hall dove under him for the lead.  Once Stornetta’s rhythm was disrupted he seemed to fall backwards.  On lap 15 he fell back to the fourth spot and a few laters later he would finish in the fifth spot.  The move of the night had to go to Austin Leggitt.  On lap 16 he went from fifth to second.  He began to track down Hall but ultimately ran out of laps.  Leggitt should be commended for his effort this weekend.  He won last night and finished second tonight.  McClenon bounced around from third, fourth and fifth for most of the night.  He eventually raced his way back into a third place finish.  Colton Slack also had a good weekend.  Tonight he overcame his ninth starting spot to finish fourth.

Leggitt was the fastest driver in qualifying by turning a lap of 15.233.  Hall and Stornetta each won their respective heat race.
